What is racism, and why is it so prevalent in today’s culture? A culture that believes that everyone should be tolerant, and that everything is subjective. One might believe something is absolute for them while it’s a lie for you. Truth is under attack in today’s culture. But there’s one truth that goes for everyone in the world, racism is wrong!
I’ve used the Merriam-Webster dictionary before, and I’ll do it again. What is racism? Well the Merriam-Webster dictionary says that racism is: “a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race”.
When talking about racism, many people associate the word racism with the United States, but I have traveled the world, and in every country I have lived in, or visited, I have noticed racial discrimination. For instance, racism in South Africa between the whites and blacks rages, and racial tensions are stronger than those in the United States. In Quebec, racism isn’t based on the color of skin, but it’s based on the language you speak. In the West African countries, racism is based upon the tribe you belong to.
But why? Why do we allow ourselves to adhere to the notion that a particular race is lesser than we are? My first question pertaining to that would be: What makes you so much greater? Honestly, are you so much better than anyone else? My second question would be: What makes that race, or group of people so much lesser than you?
I’m a Christian, and throughout the centuries, Christianity didn’t do so well at showing that every race is made equal. But I believe in Jesus Christ and I follow the teachings of the Bible. The Bible makes it clear in Genesis, that man and woman was made in the image of God. If every human is made in the image of God, no race can be any lesser or greater, because we all descended from that one man. And that man was made in the image of God.
What’s so different about us all? Well, there’s culture, language, location, age, and sex. If you can think of any others, feel free to comment them to me. But it doesn’t make anyone lesser. We all bleed red blood. We all have a heart. We all have a brain. We all communicate in one way or another. We all have a soul, and, we all get grey hair once we get old. There really is no difference that can make a certain race lesser. In the future remember that, and I will remember that too. All man was made in the image of God, and racism can not be tolerated.
